NE Distance's Katrina Spratford Selected for Scottish XC Meet

Katrina Spratford selected for team usa at Scotland cross country meet

Great Edinburgh Cross Country Race January 7, 2017

Woonsocket, RI, — The coach of the Woonsocket Middle School Cross Country team will be representing the USA in Scotland next month.  Katrina Spratford was selected for the team after her performance last Saturday at the USA Track & Field National Club Cross Country Championships in Tallahassee, Florida.

Spratford is one of eight athlete-in-residence fellows from the NE Distance team.  NE Distance is a non-profit that partners with the public school departments in Woonsocket and Providence to create free after-school cross country and track running programs for students.  This past fall over 300 students participated and were coached by the runners from the NE Distance team.
"It's a dream come true!  There's nothing that tops competing for your country and wearing USA on your uniform", says Katrina Spratford.
The Great Edinburgh Cross Country run is an annual event in Scotland that pits the best cross country runners from Great Britain against their counterparts from Team USA and Team Europe.
Spratford, 26, is enjoying a breakout year having started 2016 with a top 10 finish at the USATF National 15k Gate River Run in Jacksonville, FL, then getting personal bests on the track this spring running 33:10 for the 10,000 meters at Stanford in April and 16:08 for 5,000 meters at the Adrian Martinez Classic in Concord, MA in June.  Most recently she broke the course record at the local Mews Tavern Run in Wakefield, RI last month.
Spratford will be running the Great Edinburgh Cross Country Run in Edinburgh, Scotland on January 7th as part of the International Challenge. She is one of ten female athletes in the USA who were selected to compete at this event.
